Ivy Creek will be a partner church for 3 weeks this year. We will begin by extending our help to a group that has helped us tremendously with our hosting--the Charlottesville Friends Meeting. This will be their first time as a host congregation and they will house the Women's Shelter from December 5-19. We will provide assistance with meals, spending the night, and other areas of need. In January, we will provide assistance to Spring Hill Baptist Church as they host the Men's Shelter from the 9th to the 16th. Anyone who is interested in participating should contact the Missions Coordinator.
People and Congregations Engaged in Ministry ( PACEM ) is an interfaith ministry that provides shelter for homeless men and women during the cold winter months. Ivy Creek is one of the many congregations in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area that takes turns providing their facilities as a temporary shelter.
Ivy Creek began its involvement with this organization during the 2006-2007 season. Our Men's Group began by providing meals and overnight volunteers at Wesley UMC during their host weeks. This involvement was such a blessing for them that we then agreed to host between 35 and 40 men for a week in the spring.
We will need many volunteers to provide, cook, and serve food; fellowship with our guests; spend the night; and do clean up. If you would like more information or to volunteer for a specific job, please click here .
