Life Details


  • Linwood Whitten was born on January 10, 1888 in Amherst County.
  • In 1907 he married Susie E. Alcock and they had 9 children.
  • Prior to entering the ministry, Whitten was involved in various business ventures and served on the Charlottesville City Council.
  • He loved flowers and often wore a rose or carnation in his buttonhole.
  • Pastor Whitten died on July 17, 1961 and was buried at Rock Spring Methodist Church in Faber, VA.
  • He was described as being “blessed with a large family and large heart” and “that the whole world was his congregation; for he loved everyone, and everyone loved him.”
