- Boyd was born September 26, 1877 in Amherst, Virginia. His parents were Daniel & Lucy A. Hudson and he had at least 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
- He married Nellie May about 1906. Nellie was born in England around 1887. They had at least 3 children:
- Richard Page (born about 1907)
- Helen E. (about 1913)
- Boyd E. Jr. (February 20, 1918). Boyd Jr. became a physician.
- He registered for the draft for World War I and World War II, just making the age cut off for the WWII draft by 5 months (being 64 years old).
